Tunisia: More than 7,000 irregular migrants to return home in 2024

The Tunisian authorities announced on Wednesday that their cooperation with international organisations, in particular the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), has led to the voluntary return of 7,250 irregular migrants to their country in 2024.

This was announced by Mohamed Ben Ayad, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, in the House of Representatives.

Ben Ayad added: ‘By the end of 2024, the voluntary return of 7,250 irregular migrants has been secured in cooperation with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and in compliance with international law.

On an almost weekly basis, the Tunisian authorities announce the thwarting of irregular migration attempts to the shores of Europe and the arrest of hundreds of migrants from Tunisia or other African countries, forced to migrate because of economic and political crises in their countries.
