Trump reclassifies Houthis as ‘foreign terrorist organisation

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday reclassifying the Houthis in Yemen as a ‘foreign terrorist organisation’.

According to a fact sheet issued by the White House, Trump’s executive order revoked an order issued by Joe Biden four years ago that removed the Houthis from the list of foreign terrorist organisations.

Following the designation, Trump will direct USAID, after completing a review, to “terminate its relationship with entities that have made payments to the Houthis or that have opposed international efforts to counter the Houthis while turning a blind eye to the terrorism and abuses committed by the Houthis”.
