Colombia has accepted US President Donald Trump’s conditions for the repatriation of undocumented immigrants, the White House said in a statement on Monday. It added that the previously announced sanctions against Bogotá would be lifted accordingly.
The White House said the Colombian government had agreed to all of Trump’s conditions, including accepting the return of all illegal immigrants from the United States aboard US military aircraft without restriction or delay.
The US threatened to impose tariffs of 25 per cent on all imported Colombian goods and to raise them to 50 per cent within a week.
The German news agency DPA quoted a statement from the Colombian Foreign Ministry published on the ‘X’ platform as saying that the Colombian government had overcome a disagreement with the United States.
Colombian Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo said his country would receive the deported Colombians and guarantee them decent conditions as citizens with rights.
The source noted that the presidential plane would be available to facilitate the return of Colombians.
