Democratic Republic of the Congo: 13 Peacekeepers Killed in Clashes with Rebels

The fighting with March 23 Movement rebels in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo has resulted in the deaths of at least 13 peacekeepers and foreign soldiers, according to officials from the United Nations and the military on Saturday.

The Congolese army announced that it repelled the movement’s attack on Goma with the assistance of UN forces and soldiers from the SAMIDRAC mission.

Meanwhile, the Security Council postponed an emergency meeting to discuss the issue until Sunday morning.
