Sudanese army announces control of areas west of Khartoum

The Sudanese army announced on Wednesday that it had taken control of the Rumaila area and the industrial zone west of downtown Khartoum, moving closer to the centre of the city.

The Sudanese army is seeking to take control of downtown Khartoum, which houses government ministries and institutions, as well as the presidential palace, which is still controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Activists on social media posted videos of army forces inside Khartoum’s industrial zone and in the Rumaila area.

The development comes as the Sudanese army moves to tighten its control over the centre of the city, with its forces present in the al-Muqrin area in the west and the General Command in the east of the city.
