Uber has launched its first fully autonomous taxi service outside the United States, in partnership with the Chinese company “WeRide,” making Abu Dhabi the company’s fourth market in the robotaxi sector.

The vehicles operate using Level-4 autonomous-driving technology without a safety driver, and the service has started on Yas Island, a major tourist destination.

The launch comes after a pilot phase that began at the end of 2024, in a step reflecting the UAE’s expansion in adopting smart-transport solutions and future technologies.
