Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi of Paris Saint-Germain won the African Player of the Year award for the first time in his career on Wednesday, the African Football Confederation (CAF) announced.
The annual ceremony was held at Mohammed VI University in Rabat, attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, CAF President Patrice Motsepe, and a host of prominent sports figures and football stars from across the continent.
The 27-year-old Hakimi beat fellow nominees Egypt’s Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen of Galatasaray to claim the top individual prize.
