Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry summoned Pakistan’s ambassador in Kabul and delivered a formal protest over airstrikes that killed 18 people in eastern Afghanistan.

Kabul described the strikes as a violation of sovereignty and held Islamabad responsible for the consequences.

Pakistan, for its part, said it had targeted “terrorist camps” in Paktika province.

Tensions between the two countries have escalated amid repeated armed attacks in border regions.
