Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal Football Club officially announced Monday its withdrawal from the upcoming Saudi Super Cup, scheduled to be held in Hong Kong from August 19 to 23, 2025.
In a formal letter sent to the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF), the club cited concerns over player fatigue and potential injuries as the main reasons behind the decision, according to a statement published on Al Hilal’s official website.
The Super Cup will feature four teams: the league champions and runners-up, along with the winners and runners-up of the King’s Cup. This marks the first time the tournament will be hosted outside Saudi Arabia, part of an initiative to globalize the kingdom’s football presence.
SAFF is expected to announce a replacement team in the coming days.
