Alaska: Trump-Putin Summit Kicks Off with Rubio, Witkoff, and Lavrov in Attendance

A historic summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin began on Friday in Alaska, aimed at reaching a ceasefire in Ukraine.

The White House spokesperson said the talks are being held with the participation of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

She noted that the summit’s agenda had been revised to cancel the one-on-one meeting between the two leaders.

On Friday, the Kremlin estimated the meeting could last “six or seven hours at least.”

The Trump–Putin summit could prove pivotal in the course of the war in Ukraine, with Kyiv and its European allies stressing the importance of not being excluded from any settlement.
