Algeria’s local-based national team coach Madjid Bougherra resigned on Friday following the team’s exit from the Arab Cup at the quarter-final stage.

Algeria were eliminated after losing 7-6 on penalties to the United Arab Emirates, following a 1-1 draw after regular and extra time.

Bougherra coached Algeria’s local side in two spells, from 2020 to 2023 and again from 2024 to 2025, leading the team to the Arab Cup title in 2021 and the final of the African Nations Championship in 2022.
