Amazon Cuts 14,000 Corporate Jobs as Part of Cost-Reduction and AI Expansion Plan

Amazon announced plans to cut about 14,000 corporate positions as part of a broader effort to reduce costs and accelerate investment in artificial intelligence.

Chief Executive Andy Jassy said in a statement that the decision aligns with Amazon’s long-term strategy to boost operational efficiency, noting that generative AI will play a central role in reshaping the company’s workforce over the coming years.

Jassy added that Amazon is currently developing more than 1,000 generative AI services and applications.

At the same time, the company unveiled a $10 billion investment to build a new facility in North Carolina, aimed at expanding its cloud computing and AI infrastructure. The project is part of a broader $10 billion investment drive launched in 2024 across data center developments in Mississippi, Indiana, Ohio, and North Carolina.
