The fifth Summit of Heads of State of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) concluded in Bogotá with the adoption of the “Bogotá Declaration”, reaffirming member countries’ commitment to enhanced regional cooperation to protect the Amazon Basin and address climate change.
The declaration outlines a shared pledge to safeguard indigenous rights, preserve water resources, and maintain biodiversity, highlighting the Amazon’s strategic importance for the region and the world.
Leaders attending the summit included Colombian President Gustavo Petro, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Bolivian President Luis Arce, and Ecuadorian Vice President María José Pinto, alongside representatives from Venezuela, Peru, and Suriname.
