A court in Bangladesh on Thursday sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to 21 years in prison over three corruption cases.

The court in Dhaka, presided over by Judge Abdullah Mamun, found Hasina, 78, guilty of illegally acquiring land on the outskirts of Bangladesh’s largest city in a trial held in absentia.

Her son and daughter were also sentenced to five years in prison in the same cases.
