Leaders from across the Arab and Islamic world convened in Doha on Monday for an emergency summit to discuss a collective response to Israel’s unprecedented strike on the Qatari capital last week.
Among the high-profile participants are Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and UAE Vice President Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
In his opening remarks, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani accused Israel of deliberately targeting negotiators engaged in talks to halt the war in Gaza. “The occupation chose to assassinate mediators working on a proposal to stop the war,” he said, adding that Israel had “attacked the host country facilitating the negotiations.”
The Emir questioned Israel’s commitment to talks, asking: “How can Israel negotiate over the release of hostages while striking the very mediators and the state hosting the dialogue?”
The summit takes place amid widespread international condemnation of the Israeli strike, including from Gulf states closely allied with the United States, as Arab and Islamic nations seek to forge a unified stance against the escalation.
