Gunmen in central Nigeria ambushed a vehicle carrying people heading to an Islamic religious event, abducting 28 individuals, including women and children, according to a security report.
The report, addressed to the United Nations, stated that “on the evening of December 21, gunmen kidnapped 28 people, including women and children, while they were traveling to a Mawlid gathering” near the village of Zak in the Bashar area of Plateau state, adding that police have opened an investigation.
The incident is among the latest in a series of mass abductions in the country in recent weeks, highlighting the worsening security situation in Nigeria.
