Army Seizes Power in Madagascar After President Rajoelina’s Ouster

Madagascar’s army announced on Tuesday it had taken control of the country following a parliamentary vote to remove President Andry Rajoelina for “dereliction of duty.”

The commander of the “Capsat” unit—behind the 2009 coup—said the military would form a transitional government and hold elections within two years.

The move followed growing youth-led protests by Generation Z over poverty and corruption among government officials.
