At Least 23 Dead as Heavy Rains Sweep Across Most of Mexico

At least 23 people have been killed in Mexico following days of heavy rainfall that affected nearly all of the country’s states, local authorities said on Friday.

According to Mexico’s Civil Protection Agency, torrential rains were reported in 31 of the nation’s 32 states, with the eastern state of Veracruz, as well as Querétaro, Hidalgo, and San Luis Potosí in central and north-central Mexico, among the hardest hit.

Officials said Hidalgo recorded 16 deaths and around 1,000 damaged homes, while five fatalities and 11 missing persons were reported in Puebla. A boy was also killed in Veracruz, and a police officer lost his life in Querétaro.
