Australian police said Monday they arrested a 60-year-old man who fired around 50 shots on a busy street in Sydney, injuring more than 15 people.

Authorities reported that the incident occurred late Sunday in the city’s Inner West district, where the suspect opened fire from his apartment at passing vehicles and responding police officers.

Special police units managed to contain the situation after several tense hours and arrested the suspect without any fatalities. An investigation has been launched to determine the motive behind the attack, while the injured were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
