Brazil will join South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Wednesday.
South Africa filed the lawsuit in December 2023, accusing Israel of violating its obligations under the 1948 Genocide Convention over its military actions in Gaza.
Brazil’s decision marks a significant addition to the growing number of countries supporting the case, as international criticism mounts over the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
While Brazil has yet to issue an official statement, its move signals increasing momentum behind legal efforts to hold Israel accountable on the world stage.
No official comment has been made by the ICJ regarding Brazil’s formal legal status in the case.
