Brazilian Police Urge Charges Against Bolsonaro and Son for Obstructing Justice

Brazilian federal police on Thursday recommended that former President Jair Bolsonaro and his son Eduardo, who resides in the United States, face charges of obstructing justice and undermining the democratic rule of law. The accusations are tied to an ongoing investigation into Bolsonaro’s alleged role in plotting a coup attempt.

According to the police report, Bolsonaro and Eduardo acted with the intent to interfere in ongoing criminal proceedings. The report also noted that Eduardo has been leading efforts in the U.S. to lobby President Donald Trump’s administration to intervene on his father’s behalf.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to begin hearings on the case on September 2, with both Bolsonaro and his son facing potential sentences of up to 12 years in prison if convicted.
