Brazil’s Supreme Court issued search warrants and restraining orders against former President Jair Bolsonaro on Friday, banning him from contacting foreign officials over allegations he had courted the interference of U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to official media reports, federal police raided Bolsonaro’s residence early Friday morning as part of the court order. The former president was also ordered to wear an electronic ankle monitor, further intensifying the legal pressure surrounding him.
The measures are part of an ongoing investigation into Bolsonaro’s alleged efforts to solicit foreign interference in Brazil’s electoral processes and to secure political backing from Trump during his administration.
During his presidency, Trump imposed steep tariffs on Brazilian imports, a move later interpreted by some analysts as an attempt to ease international pressure on Bolsonaro.
