Calm returned to the northern Syrian city of Aleppo on Tuesday after authorities announced a ceasefire agreement following clashes between government troops and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that left two people dead.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that “calm prevailed in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh neighborhoods of Aleppo following the announcement of a ceasefire,” according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Syrian authorities reported that the fighting resulted in the deaths of a security officer and a civilian. They added that SDF units had targeted government checkpoints around Sheikh Maqsoud, killing one internal security officer and wounding three others, while a civilian was also killed in shelling attributed to Kurdish forces.
