Cambodia-Thailand border clashes continue for 17th day ahead of ceasefire talks

Fighting continued along the Cambodia-Thailand border for the 17th consecutive day on Tuesday, with Cambodian authorities accusing Thai forces of targeting civilian areas and shelling their territory with banned weapons, ahead of talks in Malaysia aimed at securing a ceasefire.

Malai Sotchieta, a spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, said in a press briefing that clashes were ongoing along the border.

According to official tallies from both sides, at least 44 people have been killed since fighting resumed on December 7, including 23 in Thailand and 21 in Cambodia.
