Cameroon Sets Presidential Election Date for October 12

Cameroon’s presidency announced on Friday that the country will hold its presidential election on October 12, 2025, according to an official decree signed by President Paul Biya.

The announcement comes amid rising political and security tensions in the West African nation. Cameroon continues to face a prolonged separatist conflict in its English-speaking regions, which has led to deadly clashes, dozens of casualties, and the disruption of education for thousands of students.

The government is also under scrutiny over widespread allegations of corruption affecting key state institutions.

President Biya, 92, who has ruled the country since 1982, has not yet confirmed whether he will run for another term. His silence leaves uncertainty over the political direction of one of Africa’s longest-standing regimes.

The October vote is expected to draw significant national and international attention as Cameroonians prepare to decide the country’s future leadership.
