Canada said on Friday it has removed Syria and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham from its terrorism designations, following similar moves in recent weeks by the United States and the United Kingdom.
In a statement, the government said Syria was taken off the list of “state sponsors of terrorism,” while Hayat Tahrir al-Sham was removed from the list of terrorist entities. The group had led an opposition alliance that overthrew President Bashar al-Assad.
The government said the decision aligns with recent actions taken by Canada’s allies, including the UK and the US.
