Canada removes Syria from “State Sponsors of Terrorism” list

The Canadian government announced it has removed Syria from its list of “foreign state sponsors of terrorism” and delisted Hayat Tahrir al-Sham from its terrorist entities list.

In a statement, the government said the decision aligns with steps taken by the United States and the United Kingdom, reflecting recognition of the Syrian transitional government’s role in promoting stability and countering terrorism.

Damascus welcomed the move, calling it a positive development that reflects growing awareness of the negative impact of sanctions on the Syrian people.

The decision comes amid international efforts to reassess policies toward Syria after years of isolation.
