Canada to Recognize Palestinian State at UN General Assembly in September 2025

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Wednesday that Canada intends to formally recognize the State of Palestine during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025.

Speaking at a press conference, Carney said the decision aligns with Canada’s commitment to a two-state solution. However, he emphasized that the move is conditional upon significant reforms by the Palestinian Authority.

“These conditions include comprehensive governance reforms and the holding of general elections in 2026, in which Hamas must not participate,” Carney stated.

The announcement comes amid growing international momentum toward Palestinian statehood recognition, following similar declarations by several European nations earlier this year.
