The Oman Football Association officially announced on Tuesday the appointment of veteran Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, 72, as head coach of the national team, succeeding local coach Rashid Jaber.
Queiroz will lead Oman through the upcoming Asian playoff round for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Oman is set to face tough competition in the playoff group, which includes Indonesia, Iraq, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. The matches will take place in Saudi Arabia and Qatar from October 8 to 14, 2025.
Queiroz brings extensive international experience, having previously managed Iran and Qatar in both Asian and World Cup competitions, as well as national teams including Portugal, Colombia, and Egypt.
