China announced joint military exercises with Russia in August near Vladivostok, including naval and aerial drills and patrols in the Pacific.

Beijing confirmed that the exercises are “not directed against third parties.”

This move comes ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and celebrations marking the end of World War II.
