China and the United States will hold a new round of economic and trade talks in Malaysia in the coming days, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced on Thursday, amid ongoing efforts to ease tensions between the world’s two largest economies.
“According to the agreement reached between China and the United States, Vice Premier He Lifeng will lead a delegation to Malaysia from October 24 to 27 to conduct economic and trade negotiations with the U.S. side,” the ministry said in a statement.
The talks will coincide with the ASEAN Summit to be held in Kuala Lumpur starting Sunday. Economic relations between Beijing and Washington have remained strained since U.S. President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January, reigniting the trade war between the two powers.
