Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Saturday proposed the creation of a global organization for artificial intelligence cooperation, calling on countries to enhance coordination in both the development and security aspects of AI, according to Reuters.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, Li described AI as “a new engine for growth,” but warned that global governance remains fragmented. He stressed the importance of establishing an internationally recognized framework to guide AI development and regulation.
The three-day event brings together industry leaders and policymakers at a time of intensifying technological rivalry between China and the United States—the world’s two largest economies—where AI has emerged as a key battleground in the race for technological supremacy.
