Chinese state media reported on Saturday that Beijing will apply zero tariffs on imports from 53 African countries with which it maintains diplomatic relations, effective May 1, 2026.
A report by state television said the move is aimed at strengthening economic cooperation with Africa, adding that China will continue to promote negotiations and the signing of economic partnership agreements.
Beijing will also expand market access for African exports through updated mechanisms, including what it calls a “green channel,” according to Reuters.
The report did not provide further details on the scope of products covered or the duration of the measure.
