Official data released Thursday by China’s General Administration of Customs revealed that Chinese exports to the United States dropped by 6.1% between June and July, despite a recent round of trade talks that had raised hopes for a broader trade agreement between the two economic powers.
China exported goods worth $35.8 billion to the U.S. in July, down from $38.2 billion in June and $28.8 billion in May.
Meanwhile, China’s overall global exports rose by 7.2% year-on-year in July, surpassing analysts’ expectations. Bloomberg had forecast a 5.6% increase for the month, but actual figures pointed to stronger-than-anticipated performance.
The data reflects continued global demand for Chinese goods, even as Beijing grapples with ongoing trade tensions and a complex international economic landscape.
