A cholera outbreak in Bukuyum, Zamfara State in northwestern Nigeria, has left eight people dead and over 200 infected across 11 settlements, local officials reported.

They noted that insecurity and weak healthcare infrastructure are worsening the crisis.

Health experts link the spread of cholera to shortages of clean water in rural areas and urban slums, leaving populations increasingly vulnerable.
