Colombian President Gustavo Petro said on Saturday that Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, is coming under bombardment carried out through a “missile attack.”
In a post on the social media platform X, Petro called on the Organization of American States (OAS) and the United Nations to convene an urgent meeting in response to the developments in Venezuela.
Petro did not provide further details regarding the explosions reported in Caracas.
Earlier on Saturday, explosions were heard in Caracas and other Venezuelan cities, coinciding with low-altitude flights by warplanes.
The developments come amid rising tensions between the United States and Venezuela, after U.S. President Donald Trump issued an executive order in August expanding the use of the military under the pretext of “combating drug gangs” in Latin America.
