The “Convoy of Steadfastness” received instructions to stop in eastern Libya after departing from Tunisia, aiming to reach the border of the Palestinian Gaza Strip in a symbolic move to “break the Israeli blockade,” organizers announced on Friday.

Wael Nawar, one of the organizers, said in a video posted on Facebook:
“The convoy was prevented from passing through the entrance to the city of Sirte, and this was justified as being due to official instructions.”
He added, “We do not have clear information and are awaiting clarification from the security authorities.”

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed in a statement on Wednesday that any visits by foreign delegations to the border area adjacent to Gaza must be conducted with prior approval.
