Cuban PresidentMiguel Díaz-Canel on Tuesday criticized what he described as “near-daily” threats by US President Donald Trump, as the country faces an ongoing fuel blockade that is straining its economy.
In a post on X, Díaz-Canel said: “In the face of the worst scenarios, Cuba has one guarantee: any external aggressor will face strong resistance.”
Meanwhile, energy officials said Cuba restored its national power grid after a nationwide blackout that lasted more than 29 hours, following the restart of its largest fuel-powered power plant.
Electricity was fully restored across the Caribbean island of about 10 million people by 6:11 p.m. local time, though officials warned that power shortages may persist due to insufficient generation capacity.
The developments come as the United States continues to restrict fuel supplies to Cuba, with Trump also escalating his rhetoric, saying earlier this week that he “can do whatever he wants” to the island.
