Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan escalated on Sunday, October 12, after fierce border clashes left dozens of soldiers dead on both sides — one of the deadliest confrontations since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.
Kabul announced a “successful operation” against the Pakistani army that killed 58 soldiers, while Islamabad vowed a “strong and effective” response, claiming to have killed more than 200 Taliban fighters.
Gulf states have reportedly launched mediation efforts to de-escalate tensions between the two neighbors.
