At least 46 people were killed early Wednesday in a horrific collision involving two buses and two vehicles on a highway in western Uganda, police reported.

Authorities initially estimated 63 fatalities, later revising the toll after several injured passengers were rescued.

The tragedy has reignited debate over poor road safety standards in Uganda, where hundreds die each year in fatal traffic accidents caused by bad infrastructure and speeding.
