A U.S.-based human rights organization reported that the death toll from the security crackdown on protests in Iran has reached 5,002 people, including 4,716 demonstrators and 43 children.
More than 26,800 people have been arrested, amid what is described as the longest internet shutdown in the country’s history.
Meanwhile, the United States has reinforced its military presence in the Middle East, with President Donald Trump saying the deployment of the U.S. fleet comes “in anticipation of any escalation.”
