The death toll from the derailment of two high-speed trains in Andalusia, southern Spain, has risen to 39, according to the Spanish official news agency EFE on Monday.
EFE reported that 48 people are receiving medical treatment, including 12 in intensive care, following the incident that occurred on Sunday night. The number of fatalities has increased from 21 to 39.
Local media reported that carriages from a high-speed train traveling from Malaga to Madrid derailed in the town of Adamuz in Córdoba province, simultaneously with a similar incident on the opposite track involving another train bound for Huelva.
