Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said on Wednesday that Denmark will strengthen its military presence in Greenland and continue dialogue with its NATO allies, following U.S. criticism accusing Copenhagen of neglecting the defense of the autonomous Arctic territory.
In a statement to Agence France-Presse ahead of a meeting at the White House involving officials from Greenland, Denmark and the United States to discuss the island’s future, Poulsen said Denmark “will continue to bolster its military presence in Greenland, while also placing greater focus within NATO on increased exercises and a stronger alliance presence in the Arctic.”
He added that Denmark is “in ongoing dialogue with its allies regarding new and enhanced activities in 2026,” highlighting growing security concerns in the Arctic region.
