Pakistani authorities announced that approximately half a million people have been displaced in the eastern part of the country after days of heavy rainfall caused rivers to overflow.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority confirmed Saturday that the death toll from the monsoon season since June 26 has reached 835, including 195 in Punjab alone.
For the first time in Pakistan’s history, the three major rivers in the province overflowed simultaneously, prompting wide-scale rescue operations.
