Firefighting teams in Greece continued battling a massive blaze near Athens for a second day, which has claimed one life amid fears of expansion fueled by strong winds.

More than 260 firefighters, 80 trucks, and 12 aircraft were deployed in the Keratea area.

In Italy, a large wildfire forced the closure of a hiking trail leading to Mount Vesuvius, while other fires rage in France, Spain, and Turkey, where temperatures soared above 42°C, increasing the risk of further fires.
