Mediators from Egypt and Qatar, with Turkish participation, are working on a new initiative to present to Hamas aimed at preventing a reoccupation of Gaza City.
The plan involves releasing all living Israeli hostages and the bodies of detainees in exchange for freeing Palestinian prisoners, with Israeli forces repositioned under Arab-American supervision.
The initiative includes a transitional phase where Hamas would freeze its military activity under regional guarantees, paving the way for negotiations on a permanent ceasefire agreement.
Khalil Al-Hayya, deputy head of Hamas’s political bureau in Gaza, is scheduled to arrive in Cairo on Monday to discuss the initiative’s details.
