Foreign ministers of eight Arab and Muslim countries on Thursday condemned the Israeli Knesset’s approval of a law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners, describing it as a “dangerous escalation that undermines stability.”
The joint statement was issued by the foreign ministers of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt.
The ministers expressed their “strongest condemnation” of what they described as Israeli authorities enacting legislation that permits the imposition of the death penalty in the occupied West Bank and its application against Palestinians.
They warned that such measures entrench a system of apartheid and reflect an exclusionary discourse that denies the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and their existence in the occupied territories.
The statement stressed that the law represents a “serious escalation,” particularly given what it described as its discriminatory application against Palestinian prisoners.
The ministers added that these actions risk fueling tensions and undermining regional stability, expressing deep concern over the conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention facilities.
