Russia has requested the United Nations Security Council to vote on a draft resolution on Monday calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.
Russia’s Deputy UN Ambassador, Dmitry Polyanskiy, wrote on the social media platform last Friday, “We have sent the draft resolution to the Security Council members and requested a vote on Monday at 00:15 New York time.”
The Russian permanent mission distributed a one-page draft resolution to council members on Friday, calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution calls for the release of hostages, the allowance of humanitarian aid, and the safe evacuation of civilians in need.
Israel has pledged to retaliate against Hamas for an attack by the Palestinian group a week ago. Hamas had infiltrated Israeli towns, resulting in the death of 1,300 people and the capture of numerous hostages, marking the deadliest attack on Israeli civilians in the country’s history.
