The Republicans have finally elected a president for the American House of Representatives today, Wednesday, turning the page on weeks of internal party conflicts that resulted in a congressional deadlock during a period marked by international and domestic crises.
The new Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, received unanimous support from his Republican party as the 56th legislative council president.
Johnson is married and has four children. He gained the support of the House Majority Leader, Steve Scalise, and the Judiciary Committee Chairman, Jim Jordan, both of whom failed in their efforts to win the position of House Speaker.
Johnson will be the least experienced Speaker in the post-Civil War era, succeeding Kevin McCarthy, who was previously removed from office in a precedent in the United States.
