Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said Thursday during a meeting held in Qatar with Hamas leaders that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will soon make an official visit to Moscow, and there will be discussions and consultations with President Vladimir Putin regarding the “Palestinian-Israeli conflict.”
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov also confirmed that preparations for a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas are currently underway, indicating that it is difficult to determine a date for this meeting due to developments in the conflict between the Gaza Strip and the Israeli occupation.
Observers say, “It is clear that Russia has not taken a prominent position demonstrating its desire to play a role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or to equate the American-Western role, with the exception of the draft resolution that it submitted to the Security Council for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons, and it was dropped because the United States of America used its international veto right.”.
